Porsche 911 2.2 T, Part 3: The Engine
Condividi
This is Part 3 of our Porsche 911 2.2 T restoration series. Missed Part 2? See the paint.
While the shell was in the paint shop, the engine was rebuilt on the bench: the 2.2-litre air-cooled flat six that gives the 911 T its name.
The crankcase
It started with the bare crankcase, cleaned and fitted with new studs before the crankshaft and conrods went in.

Pistons and cylinders
Each piston and cylinder was checked before going on: ring gaps measured, clearances checked, one cylinder at a time.

Heads, cams and timing
Then the cylinder heads and cam housings went on, and the cam timing was set with a dial gauge.

Fan and Webers
Finally, the cooling fan and shroud went on, followed by the Weber triple-choke carburettors the car came with when we bought it, and a pair of air filters on top.
