Pistons and cylinders are classic wear parts that are checked and, if necessary, replaced during an engine overhaul.
In particular, the cylinder raceway should be checked for wear and scoring.
Pistons and piston rings should also be checked over for scoring and wear. The grinding in the cylinder should be intact, especially on the air-cooled engines, to prevent the lubricating film from cracking.
