Drive shafts form the connection between the wheel hub and the transmission.
The joints, which are lubricated with grease, are protected from environmental influences by axle boots. Over the years, the boots become cracked. The grease can leak out and dirt entering can damage the joint. For this reason, axle boots are inspected during the general inspection and are often found to be defective.
Defective joints are noticeable by cracking or crunching noises when cornering. It is advisable to replace worn cardan shafts promptly to avoid consequential damage from the resulting vibrations.
