Wheel bearings on vehicles are the central rolling bearings that guide the wheel over the wheel hub in the wheel carrier. In old vehicles, these are often bearing pairs of, for example, deep groove ball bearings and needle bearings, while newer models usually have double row angular contact ball bearings. In the past, open rolling bearings with separate shaft seals were also used. In the meantime, thanks to "function integration," these have been replaced by bearings lubricated for life. If a wheel bearing is defective, this is usually noticeable by "humming" noises when cornering. The courageous wobbling of the wheel can also provide information about the condition of the wheel bearings.
